However, I can't think of any other examples of verbs like this at the moment, except possibly "arise". I imagine this is why it recommends not using it in the present continuous. To be honest, I'm not very familiar with the rule you mentioned, but I guess in this understanding, the verb "awake" means an instantaneous action (not just a short action) of stopping sleeping. For example, we can imagine "buy" as including looking at different pens, taking the pen to the cashier, making the payment, etc., and it therefore takes some time to do. We can say "he is buying a pen" because we can understand the verb "buy" as having a duration.
